Rangers promote Gomez, designate Stubbs

To make room for Gomez on their roster, the Rangers designated outfielder Drew Stubbs for assignment. Stubbs had played in nine games since being activated from the 60-day disabled list on Aug. 10. For the season, the 31-year-old veteran was batting .259 with three home runs and six RBIs in 39 games with the Rangers and Braves.

The Rangers signed Gomez to a Minor League deal on Saturday after the 30-year-old outfielder was released by the Astros. In 85 games with Houston this season, Gomez batted .210 with five home runs, 29 RBIs and 13 stolen bases.
