Editor's note: This story was originally published on April 7, 2017. As college football approaches, we're bringing it back.

Texas quarterback Shane Buechele made history in 2016.

The Arlington native became the true first freshman to land Texas' starting quarterback job since Bobby Layne in 1944. He took advantage, setting the school's freshman record with 2,958 passing yards.

Now the burnt orange hope Buechele can elevate his game. He's already a solid starter, so the question is whether he can join the ranks as one of college football's top passers. If he does, he may very well find himself in the Heisman conversation.
