Texas Longhorns Rumors: Mack Brown Fired? Probably not, But That Won't Stop the Rumors

There's a new report currently floating around that says Mack Brown had a meeting with Texas brass, and it didn't go very well. According to the report (which hasn't been confirmed by anyone credible, so don't get too excited), Brown was given the "retire or we'll fire you" ultimatum that many thought was coming, and he didn't respond to it very well. The meeting apparently got "combatative" and "ugly", and Texas is currently drafting up a public announcement to go over what went down (and what happens next).

Nothing too surprising here, and this is only notable because it's the first "Mack Brown is fired" rumor after months of "Mack Brown is getting fired" rumors. Even less shocking is the Nick Saban rumor popping up again - it seems to be following every Mack Brown status report like clockwork. There's no denying that Saban is at the top of Texas' list when it comes to potential replacements, but we still haven't heard anything credible to make us think it'll actually happen. Anything you hear about a flight from Tuscaloosa to Austin or a real estate purchase the Sabans have made is still unconfirmed, so until you hear otherwise, chill out. If the Sabans had actually bought half the properties they'd been "linked with" over the past few months, they'd own half of Texas by now.

If you still aren't convinced that Brown still has a job at Texas, SI's Pete Thamel just ran into him in New York City:
