Texas Football Recruiting: Jerrod Heard Could Help Longhorns Land 5-Star 2017 QB

When heralded 2014 Texas Longhorns dual-threat quarterback commit Jerrod Heard led Denton Guyer to a state title back in 2013, then-freshman Shawn Robinson was beginning to make a name for himself at Chisholm Trail.

After passing for 1,123 yards and rushing for 624 more (with 17 total touchdowns), Robinson built a buzz for himself that culminated in him transferring to Denton Guyer last offseason -- right when Heard was making his way to Texas.

Yet, although Heard and Robinson never had a chance to play together at Denton Guyer, the two have formed a relationship which could be pivotal for the Longhorns in their efforts to recruit Robinson, who is now a five-star QB prospect in the Class of 2017.

“I’m going to talk to him more about Texas soon,” Robinson said, via 247Sports. "We've talked before, and it’s really cool to see someone you know shine. I think he’s going to win the starting job this year. With Jerrod, the sky is the limit for Texas. I think he can help them do big things.”

While Heard may be the near future of the QB position in Austin, Heard could very well be his heir apparent down the road. According to most recruiting analysts, he's considered a heavy lean towards the in-state Longhorns.
