Texas Football News: Longhorns Trailing BYU 6-0 at Half

The Texas Longhorns host BYU, looking to avenge last season's loss at the hands of Taysom Hill and the Cougars.

Texas is without starting quarterback David Ash, who experienced concussion symptoms after last week's victory.

His replacement, Tyrone Swoopes got the offense into scoring range early in the first quarter, but a missed field goal kept the Longhorns off the board.

BYU made a mistake of their own, drawing a holding call that negated a 62-yard touchdown run by Taysom Hill, although the drive did end with a field goal to put the Cougars up 3-0.

With the Texas offense predictably struggling to move the ball, the defense was able to contain Hill and the BYU offense for a majority of the half.

A Johnathan Gray fumble gave BYU a scoring chance in Texas territory, but the Longhorns defense held tough, allowing just a field goal to keep them within a touchdown deficit at 6-0.

BYU finally began moving the ball late in the half, but the Longhorns defense came up big again, picking off a pass in the endzone to give the ball back to the offense, who was unable to capitalize on a last minute drive.

First-half MVP: John Harris (Texas) -six receptions, 59 yards

Second-half Prediction: Unless the Texas offense can get in sync, the Longhorns are playing a dangerous game by not capitalizing on the slow start by Hill and BYU.

The Texas defense can only carry the team so far, and as the game wears on, a tired defensive unit needs to be picked up by Swoopes and the offense or else the Longhorns will not stick around with BYU.
