Report: Texas Likely Headed To Texas Bowl

The Longhorns concluded their regular season with an ugly loss to TCU on Thanksgiving night, but Texas will still be going bowling this postseason.

According to a report from 247sports, Texas is likely headed to Houston to play in the Advocare Texas Bowl.

“It's not a done deal, but it's pretty close to one,” the source said to 247sports. “Not 100 percent, but real close.”

The Texas Bowl features a Big 12 team against a SEC team, meaning Texas will likely face Arkansas or in-state rival Texas A&M. Fans and players alike want to the see the Aggies and Longhorns face off, but the SEC could prevent that.

Unlike the Big 12, the SEC assigns bowl games to teams as opposed to the teams choosing. The conference may avoid sending Texas A&M to face their in-state rival to keep the Aggies' perceived recruiting advantage and "owning the state" over Texas for being in the SEC.

The Texas Bowl will be held December 29th in NRG Stadium in Houston.
