Longhorns Football News: Charlie Strong Talks Suspensions, "Developing Players"

In this Longhorns football news and rumors update, new Texas Longhorns head coach Charlie Strong wasn't looking to clean house when he took over the program.

However, after several dismissals and suspensions (including tailbacks Joe Bergeron and Jalen Overstreet, who were let go for repeated violations of team rules), Strong is aware of the reputation he is starting to build - and that's not necessarily a bad thing.

"You never walk into a situation where you’re looking for issues and you’re trying to get rid of guys,” Strong said, via Andy Staples of Sports Illustrated. “It’s more about developing players. But when you set rules and say this is the way things are going to be done and then guys continuously challenge you on those policies, then something has to be done."

"If you talk enough and you do nothing about it, then other players are going to eventually say, ‘Hey, why is he even standing there saying it? He’s not going to do anything about it.’”

With a bevy of talented players dying to come to Texas, Strong should have plenty of talent to choose from if additional cuts become necessary.
