Former Longhorn Legend Colt McCoy Making a Splash

Prior to two weeks ago, the name Colt McCoy had not been mentioned much outside of the state of Texas. A former Longhorn and third round selection in the 2010 draft, McCoy had not started a game in almost three years. He has one of the most decorated college careers in history, but unfortunately was never able to turn that into a successful NFL career. However, after injuries to Robert Griffin and questionable play from Kirk Cousins, Mccoy was given the chance to put himself back in the spotlight.

Not only has Colt McCoy succeeded in his two games this year, but he is doing it in impressive fashion. He is now 2-0 after leading a comeback against the Tennessee Titans and an upset win against the division leading Dallas Cowboys. The most impressive thing to this point though is how well he is performing. He by no means looks like a third string quarterback with an 85.7% completion percentage over the last two games. In Monday's win against the Cowboys, McCoy threw for 299 yards, ran for a touchdown, and led the team on an overtime game-winning drive.

With Griffin's potential return this week, McCoy may be forced to return back to the sidelines. However, with Griffin's continual health problems, there may be a chance to see #16 back on the field sometime this year. At the very least, he has put himself in a more favorable free agency position and potentially was able to extend his NFL career by a few seasons.
