Kerber, Venus advance to the fourth round in Miami

Angelique Kerber and Venus Williams advanced to the fourth round of the Miami Open with straight-set victories in the third round.

The world number one Kerber recovered from a break down in both sets to dispatch Shelby Rogers 6-4 7-5. It was yet another unimpressive performance by the German, who had a 3-0 deficit in the opening of the match and then a 4-2 one in the second set.

In the first set Kerber won five games in a row to save herself and subsequently win the set, while in the second set she broke Rogers in the first game, but dropped serve in the second game and Rogers was the one leading midway through the set.
