Tennessee Rides Dominant Rushing Attack To 45-6 Win Over Northwestern

The Tennesee Volunteers have won a bowl game for the second straight year, using a dominant rushing attack and stingy defensive performance to oust Northwestern by a final score of 45-6.

After both teams missed field goals early in the first quarter, Tennessee got on the board first with a 14-yard touchdown run from quarterback Joshua Dobbs.

Northwestern picked up their lone score in the game on a Justin Jackson five-yard TD run in the second quarter, cutting Tennessee's lead to 10-6. However, the Vols responded with another touchdown drive of their own, starting a string of 35 unanswered points to close the game, capped off by a pick-six by Evan Berry with eight seconds left in the game.

Dobbs had an impressive game for the Vols, passing for 166 yards and rushing for 48 more with two touchdowns before being pulled in the fourth quarter. Running back Jalen Hurd also had a huge game, recording 130 yards and a touchdown on just 24 carries.

Jackson was the only Northwestern player who produced at a high level, rushing for 74 yards and that touchdown. The Wildcats managed to pick up just 261 total yards against Tennessee's stout defense, and only converted three first downs in the game while turning the ball over four times.

Tennessee improves to 9-4 on the year, and are expected to compete for the SEC title in 2016. Northwestern finishes the season with a 10-3 record after the loss, marking the program's second 10-win season in the last four years.
