Tennessee Football Rumors Roundup: Latest Following Win Over South Carolina

The Tennessee Volunteers are 5-4 after a narrow 27-24 win over South Carolina. It wasn't pretty, but it was still a win. The Vols have three games and appear assured of a bowl game this season. We're here to get you all caught up on Vols news, rumors & recruiting before this weekend's massive showdown with our Tennessee Volunteers Football Roundup: Latest Following Win Over South Carolina.

Dobbs Blames Close Game On Taking Foot Off Gas

The Vols were supposed to beat the Gamecocks by more than just three. Instead, the Volunteers had to escape with a win. QB Joshua Dobbs believes he knows why the game was so close.

“They started doing some things, bringing different pressures,” Dobbs told 247sports. “But we were on the sideline talking. We kind of felt like it was really us that changed. We kind of let the foot off the pedal. And every team we play, in the SEC especially, they’re good, and if you let the foot off the pedal, they’re going to be able to come back in the game, as what happened tonight. Once we get up like that, we’ve got to keep playing, keep fighting. The game’s not over 10 minutes into the first half. We’ve got to keep playing. We’ll come out and do better, but a win’s a win. We’ll take it how they come.”

Easy Schedule Means Bowl Game

The Vols won't be playing for a SEC East title likely many had hoped, but they should be playing in a bowl game. Tennessee has North Texas, Missouri and Vanderbilt left on their schedules and those should all be wins. North Texas is 1-8, Missouri is 4-5 and Vandy is 3-6. The Vols have a great chance to finish the year 8-4 and play in a solid bowl.

Vols Heavily Favored Over North Texas

Given that North Texas has only one win this season, it's not a surprise that the Vols are heavily favored. It's MASSIVE spread, as the Vols are picked to win by 40 points. There aren't many college games with that high of a spread, especially at this point in the season.

Long Snapper To Walk-On

The Vols have added a walk-on long snapper to their class of 2016. Logan Punch, the son of ESPN's Dr. Jerry Punch, accepted the walk-on offer after the Vols win over South Carolina.

"It's been my dream ever since I was little to play for Tennessee," Punch told the Knoxville News Sentinel. "It's going to be incredible. Just thinking about it every day makes me realize how blessed I am."
