The Tampa Bay Rays cleared space on their 40-man roster today by trading right-hander Kirby Yates to the Cleveland Indians on Wednesday for cash considerations.
The team also outrighted outfielder Daniel Nava and right-hander Brandon Gomes to the minors, and released catcher J.P. Arencibia.
Nava has refused the assignment and is a free agent.
Gomes has three days to accept or refuse the assignment. If he refuses, he also becomes a free agent.
All four were designated for assignment Friday to clear room so the Rays could add prospects they want to protect from December’s Rule 5 draft.
