Rays Dickerson striking balance between hitting and slugging

ST. PETERSBURG — Three swings Tuesday afternoon produced three mighty blasts. One sent the baseball with a bang beyond the center-field fence and into the garage door in the front of the batter’s eye, the next splashed down in the touch tank, and the third rattled some seats in right-center field, not far from the giant video screen.

“Impressive,” Rays manager Kevin Cash.

Cash was the one throwing batting practice to Corey Dickerson.

Yes, Dickerson turned on 60 mph meatballs, but still ... they went a long way.

And Dickerson can do that against real pitchers in real games, as illustrated by his 453-foot home run that landed awfully close to the video screen during the Rays’ third game of the season.
