Tampa Bay Lightning backup goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy is expected to miss at least the first two months of the season after undergoing surgery Thursday for a blood clot near his left collarbone.
Dr. Karl Illig performed the surgery at Tampa Gernal Hospital on Thursday, and Vasilevskiy underwent treatment for a type of Vascular Thoracic Outlet Syndrome, Lightning general manager Steve Yzerman said.
Vasilevskiy is expected to return in 2-3 months, Yzerman said. The Lightning open the season at home on Oct. 8 against the Philadelphia Flyers.
