Bolts will need better effort in front of net

Tampa Bay Lightning

BRANDON — Saturday’s Game 2 playoff matchup between the Lightning and the Red Wings could hinge on which team establishes ownership over a piece of prime property inside Amalie Arena.

Although Detroit was outshot 46-14 Thursday, the Red Wings edged the NHL’s best home team by a 3-2 margin, playing tough, physical hockey in front of rookie goaltender Petr Mrazek, who was named the game’s No. 1 star.

Most of Tampa Bay’s shots came from the perimeter and Detroit’s rugged defense kept the crease in front of Mrazek clean -— especially during the Lightning’s seven failed power-play opportunities, spanning more than 10 minutes.
