TAMPA — Vernon Hargreaves Jr. didn’t want to be that guy. Well, that dad, really.
You know, the kind who lives vicariously through his son, always pushing him to follow in his footsteps.
Vernon Hargreaves III was starting to show some interest in playing football, though, and Hargreaves Jr. thought the time had come to find out if his son really had the acumen for it.
Hargreaves III was just about to start his sophomore year at Wharton High in Tampa, and the father knew someone who was putting together a seven-on-seven team.
“So I said, ‘Let’s go out there, just to see where you’re at, just to see what you can do and if you can compete here in Tampa,’” Hargreaves Jr.
