NFL column: Glazers' ante key to Tampa's Super Bowl bid

Once again, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are on the clock.

A few weeks after kicking off the NFL draft with the selection of quarterback Jameis Winston, the Bucs received word from the league that the Tampa area has been invited to bid on the next two available Super Bowls, in 2019 and 2020.

The region has a year to submit a dynamic proposal that sways owners to return America’s premier sports event to Raymond James Stadium for the first time since the Pittsburgh Steelers rallied past the Arizona Cardinals in a riveting 2009 matchup.

Atlanta, New Orleans and Miami are also in the mix and, in reality, there are probably three regions competing for one game because the 2019 Super Bowl appears ticketed for a retractable-roof facility slated to open in 2017 as the new home of the Falcons.
