Sunderland looking increasingly likely for relegation after hapless defeat

Sunderland appear to be coasting towards relegation after an utterly predictable 2-0 defeat at Everton left them rooted at the bottom of the Premier League. Familiar failures in defence allowed Everton to convert comprehensive dominance into a goal in each half.

Adnan Januzaj's skill and vision -- rare from player who has largely disappointed during his loan from Manchester United -- offered some hope to David Moyes' side. But to sum up Sunderland's appalling season, their one threat to Everton's goal -- when Jermain Defoe hit the bar -- was immediately followed by a breakaway attack that left Romelu Lukaku one-on-one with goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.
