Liverpool could be investigated by MPs for their part in the tapping-up of a Stoke City schoolboy.

The re-elected chairman of the Culture, Media & Sport select committee, Damian Collins, has called for a parliamentary review in the wake of the scandal, for which the Reds have been banned from signing English academy players for two years and fined £100,000.

The Premier League held an investigation into a claim that the 12-year-old was offered a forbidden inducement to move from the Potters last summer, with the serious allegation made that Liverpool reneged on an agreement to pay his school fees when they did not sign him.
