Stanford Football News: Cardinal, Vanderbilt Agree To Four-Game Series

The Stanford Cardinal and Vanderbilt Commodores football teams will finally meet on the gridiron for the first time in 2021, as officials from both programs agreed to a four-game series spanning over seven years earlier in the week.

Per Jesse Johnson of 247Sports, "the Cardinal will make its first trip to Nashville to play the Commodores on September 18th, 2021. Vanderbilt will then return the favor a few years later on September 7th, 2024 with a trip to Palo Alto. Vanderbilt will host Stanford again on September 5th, 2025 before making a trip back out to California on September 11th, 2027."

Vanderbilt and Stanford have squared off in other sports over the past few years, including a matchup in the NCAA Baseball Super Regionals last summer and, most recenty, a battle in the men's college basketball National Invitation Tournament quarterfinals.

"We have been working to put this series together for quite some time," Vanderbilt Athletics Director David Williams stated on Wednesday. "This game is a natural because Stanford is also an academic institution playing football in a strong conference."

Vanderbilt's football program has only faced one Pac-12 school in its history when the Commodores fell to the UCLA Bruins in Los Angeles back in 1961.
