WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. • That Cardinals' ongoing and assertive effort to gather talent from international markets has landed an outfielder they aren't waiting to showcase.

Jose Adolis Garcia agreed to a minor-league contract with the Cardinals ate Thursday and his deal includes an immediate invitation to spring training. The Cardinals expect to formally present Garcia on Saturday, shortly before the Cardinals play their first exhibition game of spring. Garcia received a $2.5-million bonus from the Cardinals, MLB.com first reported.

Garcia, 24, is a speedy Cuban outfielder who has played briefly in Japan last year and was declared a free agent by Major League Baseball in December.
