Hummel: Trade deadline winners, losers, and more

There were so many teams in playoff contention at or near baseball’s trading deadline without waivers that a glut of deals was inevitable. Some of the names that wound up on the backs of different uniforms bordered on astounding. Tulowitzki. Price. Hamels. Cueto.

Generally, the “have-nots” made some of the “haves” better, but some of the wiser lower-echelon clubs like Milwaukee ultimately may have made themselves a lot better.

Here is a list of teams that might have helped themselves the most, and that helped themselves the least.

The Blue Jays have acquired the top offensive shortstop in the game in Troy Tulowitzki and, if only for two months, one of the top lefthanders in the American League in David Price.
