San Diego second baseman Jedd Gyorko notched two RBIs Friday, giving the Padres a 2-1 win over the Cardinals at Busch Stadium.
Facing Cardinals starter Michael Wacha in the seventh inning, Gyorko homered on a 2-0 pitch to allow the Padres to tie the Cardinals 1-1. It was Wacha’s only earned run on the night.
Gyorko’s next big hit came against St. Louis closer Trevor Rosenthal in the ninth inning. Rosenthal gave up a triple to Yangervis Solarte with one out. Gyorko then singled to bring Solarte home, which gave the Padres a 2-1 lead.
The RBI single also snapped Rosenthal’s consecutive scoreless innings streak at 23 2/3, the second most in the National League coming into the game.
