Adams injury severe, could last more than 15 days

ST. LOUIS • Matt Adams' strained quadriceps muscle is severe and could take longer to heal than 15 days, Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak said before Wednesday's game.

Mozeliak added that the MRI is being reviewed, but surgery remains a possibility for the first baseman.

Adams grabbed his upper thigh as he was rounding first base after hitting a double during Tuesday's game. Mark Reynolds is taking his place at first base for Wednesday night's game against Arizona.

Without Adams, Peralta moves into cleanup spot

After first baseman Matt Adams left Tuesday's game with a strained right quadriceps muscle and was placed on the 15-day disabled list, Mark Reynolds will take his place in the field.
