St. John’s Shamorie Ponds, Marcus LoVett win All-Met honors

The Metropolitan basketball Writers Association has published their all-region awards, honoring the best of the New York City area (which extends northeast to Fairfield, CT and west into New Jersey, and St. John's has two players who earned honors.

Freshman Shamorie Ponds, who averaged 17 points per game and set the freshman scoring record at St. John's, earned the all-Met rookie of the Year award - last earned by a St. John's player when JaKarr Sampson won in 2013. Ponds is also a member of the All-Met First Team.

Marcus LoVett, the point guard and fellow fellow freshman, earned a spot on the All-Met Second Team, averaging 16 points and nearly four assists per game.
