Wallner comes up aces in USM victory

Matt Wallner continues to dazzle as a freshman for the Southern Miss baseball team.

The 6-foot-5 Minnesota native, who is tied for the team lead with seven home runs through the Golden Eagles’ 25 games, stroked a two-run single and picked up his third save of the season with a scoreless ninth inning in the team’s 4-2 win over South Alabama Tuesday at Pete Taylor Park.

Wallner is now tops on the team in saves.

Southern Miss improves to 20-5 overall, while South Alabama drops to 15-10. The Golden Eagles have won 11 of their last 12 games.
