USM coaches: No need for personnel changes

Despite giving up more than 500 yards of offense to UTSA last week, Southern Miss is still ranked 16th in the FBS in total defense.

But the Golden Eagles (4-2), which have trotted out the same starters on defense in each of the past three games and four out of the last five, are trending in the wrong direction. On Sept. 24, Jay Hopson’s team allowed just 258 yards in a win over UTEP. The following week, Rice put up 346 yards on Southern Miss.

On Monday, Hopson said he doesn’t feel any changes need to be made personnel-wise.
