Scoring opportunities have been plentiful for Southern Miss this season.
The Golden Eagles, who entered this week's series versus Rice ranked in the top 10 in the nation in runs scored, have made good on quite a few of those chances.
But against the Owls Saturday at Reckling Park, Scott Berry's team squandered a bevy of such moments. Southern Miss left 13 runners stranded on base, including six in scoring position. Rice, on the other hand, had no such struggles as it pummeled the visitors 11-4, evening the three-game series.
Southern Miss (27-9, 11-3 Conference USA) lost for the third time in its last four games, while Rice (13-24, 4-10) won for the third time in its last five outings.
