Marlins draft Braley in 6th round

Taylor Braley became the highest Southern Miss MLB draft pick since 2011 on Tuesday.

The junior Golden Eagle was taken by the Miami Marlins in the sixth round with the 179th overall pick. The slot value for that selection is set at $253,800.

Former Southern Miss slugger B.A. Vollmuth was selected by the Oakland Athletics in the third round in 2011.

Braley becomes the fourth Golden Eagle taken in the draft's top 10 rounds in the last five years.

Braley, who is listed as being drafted as a right-handed pitcher, has one year of eligibility remaining at Southern Miss.
