LSU pushes late for win against USM, 45-10

Southern Miss fans had this game circled for a long time coming.

They wanted the Tigers. They got the Tigers.

“It doesn’t matter where you play, you’ve got to execute between those lines,” said coach Jay Hopson.

Southern Miss gave LSU all it had in the first half, tying the Tigers at 10-10 going into the intermission.

Slow and methodical was Southern Miss’ gameplan, taking up just over eight minutes to score on their first possession. Nick Mullens, who primarily is not a runner by trade, pushed the ball to the one-yard line giving Ito Smith a short field to work with for the 7-0 lead on the Tigers.
