Jackson State close to FBS games over next two seasons

Jackson State may soon have games against FBS schools secured for the next two seasons.

The Tigers have agreed in principle but haven't finalized contacts to open the 2017 season against TCU and the 2018 season against Southern Miss, according to a source close to the football program.

It would be the first game in program history against TCU and the third against Southern Miss. The Golden Eagles beat Jackson State 17-7 in 1987 and 55-7 in 2002, two games that were among the most-attended in Southern Miss program history.

The SWAC is changing its conference schedule from nine games to seven, forcing its member schools to play two more nonconference opponents.
