Training camp is a time for Jay Hopson to immerse himself in every facet of his football team.

The second-year Southern Miss head coach has spent the past week-plus bouncing from position group to position group, studying and evaluating his players’ progress.

One of Hopson’s primary focal points since training camp began has been the specialists. Chiefly, the Golden Eagles must replace four-year starter Tyler Sarrazin at punter. Hopson said he’s been acutely dialed in on that group since day one.

“I’m watching that one daily,” he said.
