MONDAY, MARCH 12

Southampton have to play an FA Cup fifth-round replay against Ron Atkinson’s West Bromwich Albion five days before the League Cup final.

‘Ron was on the phone early asking if I had any spare tickets for tonight’s replay,’ writes McMenemy in his book Diary of a Season. ‘“You’ve got too many friends,” I said.
