For USC's next head coach, upgrading Gamecocks' roster will be no quick fix

COLUMBIA -- Pharoh Cooper is gone. Skai Moore may be going. And South Carolina’s next head coach may be saddled with a roster every bit as limiting as the one which sunk the Gamecocks to their first losing season in a dozen years.

That’s the reality which USC faces after Saturday’s 37-32 loss to No. 1 Clemson, the finale to a 3-9 campaign which stands as the worst at South Carolina since the winless season of 1999. The games over, athletic director Ray Tanner can step up his search to find a successor to Steve Spurrier. But filling holes on a roster replete with walk-ons and underperforming players promises to be anything but a quick fix.
