Deciding baseball game between Gamecocks, Gators interrupted by weather

COLUMBIA — Sunday’s deciding third game between No. 1 Florida and No. 6 South Carolina was interrupted by weather, after getting started an hour late due to lightning in the vicinty.

The game was halted in bottom of the fourth inning with no score. Rain began to fall, and fans at Founders Park were asked to seek shelter due to lightning detected within eight miles of the stadium.

Under NCAA rules, teams must wait a minimum of 30 minutes after a nearby lightning strike, with the clock starting over again each time another strike is detected.
