South Alabama clinches bowl bid with 35-28 win over New Mexico State

South Alabama is going bowling.

The Jaguars scored 21 straight points in the fourth quarter to hold off upset-minded New Mexico State 35-28 on Saturday, clinching bowl-eligibility with a 6-6 record (2-6 in Sun Belt Conference play). South Alabama will find out its postseason destination on Sunday.

South Alabama took the lead for good at 28-21 on Dami Ayoola's 2-yard touchdown run with 6:53 remaining, capping a 12-play, 86-yard drive. The long scoring march was sparked by a 29-yard run by quarterback Dallas Davis on second-and-19.

New Mexico State (3-9, 2-6 Sun Belt) then had a 25-yard run by Larry Rose III wiped out by a holding penalty, and had to punt with 5:08 left.
