Roundup: Lloyd Helps U.S. Women Close in on Olympic Spot

Carli Lloyd scored on a rebound of her own penalty kick in the 86th minute, and the United States beat Mexico by 1-0 in Frisco, Tex., on Saturday to clinch a spot in the Concacaf Olympic qualifying semifinals.

Lloyd’s penalty shot, taken after a hand ball by Mexico in the penalty area, went toward the middle of the goal and was blocked by Cecilia Santiago. With Santiago still on the ground, Lloyd buried the rebound for her 84th career goal.

The winners of the semifinals, set for Houston on Feb. 19, will qualify for the Rio Olympics.
