'El D10S': Lionel Messi

Legends such as Maradona, Pele, Cruyff, and so on have been talked about for decades now about how amazing it was to witness such talent. Watching videos of these legends may give you a slight idea of just how great they were but only living through the peak of their careers can significantly help you praise a lengend. Of course every football follower dreams of being able to tell his/her kids, grandkids, etc. about an amazing talent that they were able to witness. Videos, articles, and passion descriptions about this man cannot ever be enough to describe the talent that he possesses in his two little feet.

Lionel Messi has been batting records left and right and he has not stopped yet. On March 20th, 2012 Barcelona faced Granada in La Liga with Messi only having to score one goal to tie Cesar Rodriguez's record of most goals scored in FC Barcelona history. The Argentine did not only score one, he scored three. Making him the top goal scorer in Barcelona's history. Not only did this record provide endless joy to his most loyal fans, but critics began to ponder about whether or not he was now the best player to ever play the game.

Being compared to legens like Pele or Maradona are enough to show that his talent is no joke. Messi is unique, unlike any other player that has ever come on the pitch. His movements are quick, simple, yet unpredictable and seem to work very frequently. What is his secret, however? How can such a small 24-year-old Argentine not crack under the pressure after being put in the spotlight for so long? What Messi brings to the field is his love for the game. He also plays just like he would play on the school yard with his friends. Players struggle psychologically in big games, or any game at all, because their mind automatically knows that they have to perform strongly in order to impress. Take Fernando Torres, for example. The striker was put under pressure after being sold to Chelsea for 50 million euros and had no choice but to prove himself worthy for the club. Torres, unlike Messi, was not as lucky and has struggled psychologically to get back in the swing of things for the Blues.
