Controversy at the Bernabeu

It is no surprise to fans that controversial plays were seen Wednesday in the first Clasico of the year. Real Madrid and Barcelona faced off in the Santiago Bernabeu for the first round of the quarter finals of the Copa del Rey (Kings Cup).

The Catalan champions prevailed yet again against the whites and won 1-2. The blaugranas, however, had much to say after the final whistle blew. Several fouls were seen from both sides but certain controversial fouls were seen from the whites. Portuguese defender Pepe fouled Lionel Messi and while the Argentine tried to get up, Pepe stepped on his hand which went unseen by the referee. As the tension heated between the two, the dirty game began to be seen by the home team. Pushing and shoving became increasingly seen by both sides as the score evened out.
