SMU volleyball beats Texas A&M, advances to second round of NCAA Tournament

For the first time in program history, SMU volleyball won an NCAA Tournament match.

The Mustangs swept Texas A&M 3-0 in Austin Friday night to set up a Saturday night match with Texas. The victory brought SMU’s overall record to 26-7 for the year, and dropped Texas A&M to 21-9.

SMU won the three sets 25-23, 25-23 and 25-18. Junior Katie Hegarty recorded 14 kills, tying an SMU NCAA Tournament record, and added five blocks. Freshman setter Kendall Patterson added 10 digs and 36 assists. Kristen Stehling also had a good game; with ten kills, three blocks and an ace.
