SMU's recruiting class took a big hit on Sunday.

According to multiple reports, three-star Lancaster defensive end Noah Jones backed out of his verbal pledge to the Mustangs.

Jones originally committed to the Mustangs in June over offers from Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Purdue and others.

At 6-foot-4, 235 pounds, Jones is ranked as the No. 40 strong-side defensive end in the country and No. 113 overall prospect in the state, according to 247Sports Composite.

SMU now has 16 commits in its 2017 class.
