4 Seahawks Players Who Could Have Breakout Seasons In 2017

The Seattle Seahawks made the playoffs last year, but came up short in the playoffs. Seattle remains one of the top Super Bowl threats (as they've been for several years), but they'll need several players to step up to win another title.

Breakout seasons happen every year in the NFL. Sometimes, the player in question makes the leap from very good to superstar. Sometimes, a player goes from role player to key starter. Rookies don't count on this list either. So who will be the breakout players for the Seahawks in 2017? We've put together five of the most likely candidates below.

OT Germain Ifedi

The Seahawks are certainly hoping this is the case. Ifedi seems likely to take and keep the right tackle spot. The former first round pick spent much of last year at right guard, where he had his struggles (along with almost the entire line). If Seattle is going to win a Super Bowl, they'll need the offensive line to step up. As a second-year player, Ifedi is one of the players who can have that breakout type season.

DT Jarran Reed

Reed was not a pass rusher last year and likely won't ever become a double-digit sack master, but he's a solid run stuffer. He'll likely take a bigger role in his second year and Michael Bennett has already suggested Reed will breakout this year. Reed was drafted to replace Brandon Mebane, but I don't think he'll become the player Mebane was. He might just end up better.

WR Paul Richardson

Richardson has battled injuries throughout his time in Seattle, but flashed his game-breaking potential in the playoffs. He racked up seven catches for 131 yards and 1 TD in the postseason, showing the ability the Seahawks thought he had when they made him a second round pick. If Richardson can make those flashes consistent, he could provide the Seahawks with a big-play weapon. Also keep an eye on Tyler Lockett.

Pick A Running Back

Normally, I do five breakout players. But, instead, I'm doing four and having a cop-out for one of them by grouping three running backs together. Eddie Lacy, Thomas Rawls and C.J. Prosise could all breakout and more than one might. Lacy has talent and if he can stay in shape, he might finally make the most of it. Rawls was hurt for a good chunk of last year, but has shown flashes of ability. Prosise has great pass catching ability, which might make him the best fit for the Seahawks given their offensive line issues.
