How to fix the Seattle Mariners: Rebuild the bullpen, trade CF Austin Jackson and keep Edgar Martinez as hitting coach

As the Seattle Mariners approach September without realistic hopes of making a playoff push, there will be plenty of time to examine what went wrong.

After a surprising 87-75 finish in 2014, the Mariners began Friday at 59-69, seven games back of the second American League Wild Card. In an unsurprising move, Jack Zduriencik, the general manager and executive vice president of baseball operations, was fired Friday.

Jeff Kingston, the Mariners’ assistant general manager since 2009, will act as interim gm through the rest of the 2015 regular season, though the club is expected to undergo a widespread search for Zduriencik’s replacement.
