SAN JOSE — Danny Hoesen was the last Earthquake to score a goal. 246 minutes passed by, and in the 13th minute of Saturday’s 2-1 win over Real Salt Lake, Hoesen did it again.
Hoesen and the Quakes (6-6-5, 23 points) had not scored a goal since last month, a May 27 4-2 home loss to the Los Angeles Galaxy. Throughout the lengthy goal drought that followed, San Jose’s ability to even create scoring opportunities became anemic, including a forgetful performance in last week’s scoreless draw against Sporting Kansas City in which the club mustered up just five total shots all game.
