Giants youth movement continues with hot-hitting Ryder Jones

SAN FRANCISCO — Desperate for an infusion of young talent and energy, the Giants purchased the contract of infielder Ryder Jones from Triple-A Sacramento Saturday and Jones was expected to be immediately thrust into the lineup against the New York Mets.

The Giants designated veteran utilityman Aaron Hill for assignment to make room for the 23-year-old Jones, who in his first full season at Triple-A was hitting .299 with 16 doubles, two triples and 10 home runs in 53 games for the River Cats.

Jones, who will likely get most of the time at third base with Eduardo Nunez on the disabled list, has been swinging a particularly hot bat of late.
