Several of the Giants’ top prospects have been injured this season, wiping out opportunities for management to fully evaluate them either at Triple-A Sacramento or the big leagues.
The opportunities were available more in 2017 than in most years because of the Giants’ woes and willingness to look at younger talent with an eye toward the future.
As a result, the Giants are trying to place some of their prospects in winter ball - specifically the Dominican Republic -- including Austin Slater, Ryder Jones and Christian Arroyo, all of whom were shelved for part of the season.
