Giants Spring Training News & Rumors Roundup: Bumgarner Healthy, Osich To Close?

Spring Training has already begun for the San Francisco Giants, as the focus has finally shifted from MLB front offices to the players on the field. However, there's still some activity from the MLB Hot Stove to work through. With that in mind, here are the latest Giants rumors and news for March 20th.

Bumgarner says he's healthy
Pitcher Madison Bumgarner said that his injured rib cage and foot feel better, but his delivery was just off on Saturday.

“My delivery was terrible,” he said. “It’s not quite where I want it. It’s not too far away either. My timing is off, and my rhythm.”

Bumgarner allowed five runs in just 2 2/3 innings on 60 pitches on Saturday in thier 9-1 loss to the Oakland A's. His performance raised questions as to his health after he missed a start. He has an ERA of 10.57 this spring.

Osich to get permanent closing role?
San Francisco has been using both Santiago Casilla and Sergio Romo to close games since 2012, but could manager Bruce Bochy give Josh Osich the sole role as closer this season? Around the Foghorn's Stephen Ruderman says he should get a chance.

Josh Osich, who nearly quit baseball, sent a message last season, as he went 2-0, with an ERA of 2.20 in 35 games after he was called up in July. Osich is a young left-hander, whose fastball averages in the mid 90s. Osich is the type of pitcher that could be the closer for the Giants for years to come. Osich demonstrated that he can retire big hitters such as Bryce Harper.

Casilla will turn 36 years old this season, and there have been times where he has struggled in the spotlight, such as the top of the ninth inning of game 5 of the 2014 NLCS. The Giants can’t rely on Romo’s slider to work on a daily basis. Osich appears to be someone that can handle the spotlight well, and the Giants might want to consider making him the closer this season.
