Tim Hudson accepts new role as Leake takes starting spot

ARLINGTON, Texas — Mike Leake is replacing a pitcher in the Giants’ rotation he once emulated.

When Leake was breaking into the majors, he watched video of Tim Hudson but never spoke with him until Friday, a day after the Giants acquired Leake from the Reds in their lone deadline-beating trade.

“I actually learned a lot from him,” said Leake, who envied how Hudson, with a similar body type, was aggressive on the mound and had impressive movement with his pitches. “I look forward to working with him, talking with him and picking his brain.”

Obtained for minor-leaguers Adam Duvall and Keury Mella, Leake will make his Giants debut Sunday in the series finale against the Rangers, who beat the Giants 6-3 Friday.
