Ryan Lollis finally gets call to majors with Giants

WASHINGTON — Rarely do 37th-round draft picks reach the majors after seven seasons in the minors. They usually resign themselves to other careers and hang up their spikes.

Ryan Lollis, the Giants’ newest outfielder, is an exception. Why?

“Grit, grinding, all that good stuff. That’s the kind of guy I am,” Lollis said as he donned a big-league jersey for the first time Friday at age 28.

“I don’t like the word ‘quit,’” he said, adding that he told team executives he just wanted to keep playing ball and did not care at which level.
