Giants Splash: McGehee cut again, team promotes Adrianza

MIAMI — The Giants gave Casey McGehee a second chance. It did not work out. He's gone — again.

As they arrived in the town where McGehee won Comeback Player of the Year last season, the Giants designated the third baseman for assignment and purchased the contract of infielder Ehire Adrianza from Triple-A Sacramento.

Adrianza gives the Giants a switch-hitter with more versatility, which is important for a team carrying a short, four-man bench.

McGehee lost his starting third-base job to Matt Duffy and was 5-for-17 with three double plays since returning from the minors on June 5.
